Holy Week- Day 8, Resurrection Sunday

Death is a heavy topic mostly because it’s surrounded by sadness, grief, and pain when it comes to loved ones. Yet, we celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus? How can something so painful be turned into a celebration? This isn’t a trick question. Although we now experience death, because of this act of love by Jesus, it no longer stings for the believer. Death has no hold on us any longer because of the power of Jesus. The fact that Jesus defeated one of Satan’s greatest weapons, that is death and the grave caused by sin, must bother the devil greatly.

This should awaken within us a great hope. What if you had the key to unlock a door that had unlimited resources to feed the hungry on the other side? Would you share that key with others so they wouldn’t hunger again? Of course! We hold the key to victory over death in the form of the gospel that saves, yet why do we often not share the key? We have the greatest hope within us, yet we keep it to ourselves. We should ask others, “Although you will experience physical death, what if I told you that isn’t the end for those that believe? We serve a God that defeated death!” We have the greatest hope on the edge of our lips but often share it not. Let today be the day of sharing the gospel- that is, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Death could not hold You
The veil tore before You
You silenced the boast, of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring the praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again
What a Beautiful Name, Song Lyrics

Matthew 28:1-10
Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he[a] lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

1 Corinthians 15: 55-57
55 “O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
